The Beacon is committed to hosting regular, accessible touchpoints for our community to share their perspectives with our staff.
From virtual town halls to in-person listening sessions and Documenters trainings, The Beacon is embedded in the neighborhoods we serve. In addition to our 24/7 story idea line, these events inform future coverage. Questions and comments raised by attendees are shared with the reporter whose beat most closely matches their idea and any resulting story is labeled as ”community sourced”.
Together, we’re building a newsroom for, and by, the community.

What the Flock? Cameras in Wyandotte County: What Do We Know? Community Qs
Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026
6:00 p.m. — 7:30 p.m. CDT
What the Flock? You asked. The Beacon is digging in.
This summer, a KCK reader asked The Beacon about Flock cameras appearing around Wyandotte County. We started asking questions, too.
What do these cameras capture? Who can access the information? How long is it stored? How are the cameras being used in Wyandotte County, and what oversight exists?
Join The Beacon and Kansas City Documenters for a community conversation about what we know, what we still don’t know and what residents want to know next.
