We’re excited to share the launch of Local News Day, a new nationwide day of action dedicated to connecting communities with trusted local news and information.
The Beacon is pleased to share that we are one of the founding newsrooms of Local News Day. The initiative, managed by the Montana Free Press, is a collaborative effort involving several journalism and philanthropic organizations, including the American Journalism Project and Press Forward.
Taking place on April 9, 2026, Local News Day will bring together hundreds of local newsrooms nationwide to highlight how local journalism drives informed decision-making, fosters community connection and ensures institutional accountability.
Why now? Americans overwhelmingly rank local news as their most important and trusted source of information. It is the frontline of accountability, the bridge for community connection and the primary tool for making informed decisions. However, this work only thrives when our readers and neighbors are active participants. And this work only matters if our communities are part of it. We invite our readers and neighbors to join us.
How you can help right now:
- Learn More: Visit LocalNewsDay.org to get more information about the campaign.
- Get involved: Organizations interested in joining the effort can sign up as partners here!
- Stay connected: Have questions or want to learn more? Email localnewsday@impactual.com.
Thank you for supporting local news and information. The Beacon is proud to be part of a growing national movement that protects local news and puts communities first.
