Half the seats on the Kansas Board of Education are up for election.
The 10-seat board is losing three of the more moderate elected officials, which could swing the political leanings of the board to the left or right.

Board of Education District 2
Incumbent Melanie Haas is running for another term in office. She faces an independent candidate and retired librarian in the race.
Board of Education District 4
A former state lawmaker and former principal are running for an open seat. Incumbent Ann Mah didn’t seek reelection after serving on the board since 2017.
Kansas Board of Education District 6
Deena Horst held this seat since 2013. She left office and has two hopefuls running to replace her.
Board of Education District 8
Betty Arnold is running for her second term in office. She is one of two candidates seeking reelection this cycle.
Board of Education District 10
Three challengers are running for an open seat on the board of education. Two candidates sit at opposite ends of the political spectrum, and one independent sits between them.
