I get it…talking to the news can be a scary experience, especially when you don’t know what they will ask, how they will use your words, or if they even have your best interest. If you’ve been a supporter of us you know that’s not how we operate. If you aren’t and you’re new here, welcome! I like to say that our community journalism lab can be seen as the middleman between your insights and our newsroom.
As of March of 2024, we started hosting what we call a “Beacon Roast & Report,” at local coffee shops around the metro as a way to meet the people where they are. Our Roast & Report is a monthly coffee meet-up with locals to discuss a variety of topics, such as issues in their neighborhood that they have questions about, what’s missing from local news coverage, or anything else they believe needs our media’s attention in a cozy, informal and safe setting.
So far we have been at The Spot and The Borough. Great coffee and great spaces by the way! We hope you will join us at our next Roast & Report and who knows? Maybe your story idea might be an influence to our upcoming articles.
